This study investigates the integration of digital technologies into the teaching of Chinese for Business and Administration, with particular attention to the linguistic characteristics and commercial context of Hong Kong. Drawing on competency‑based assessment frameworks, the study examines how artificial intelligence enhances pedagogical effectiveness and learning outcomes, while highlighting the transformative impact of educational digitalization on applied Chinese language education. Situated within Hong Kong’s business context, the study demonstrates how technological innovation and language instruction intersect to support outcome‑oriented learning. This paper adopts a qualitative case study methodology to examine issues related to curriculum design. The study proposes an AI-enhanced curriculum that integrates language education with business knowledge to foster interdisciplinary competencies. The curriculum defines intended learning objectives and outcomes related to format, content and the effective application of Hong Kong business communication practices, with AI embedded as a core learning component. The intervention employed explicit AI‑use guidelines and a three‑stage instructional design to progressively develop students’ learning capacities. Exploratory interviews were conducted prior to instruction to examine students’ AI use strategies and perceptions of AI‑supported learning. An iterative instructional cycle was implemented, in which teaching strategies were refined through formative analysis of students’ reflective data on writing processes and AI use, and learning was assessed via authentic, performance‑based tasks with staged feedback to inform the optimization of AI‑integrated pedagogy. The empirical findings indicate that effective communication requires an understanding of sociocultural context and communicative strategies, with AI serving as a facilitative tool to enhance outcomes when appropriately applied.
