Children's language develops in both oral and written form. Letters are part of written language. Children perceive them and actively work with them. They have many opportunities to learn independently, and adults also teach them letters. The diversity of opportunities is a result of children's different abilities. Writing letters outside of school has one thing in common – conventional letters. The article shows which conventional, capital letters preschool children write most often. A quantitative content analysis of children's written work in a test task (Lipnická, 2009, 2025) showed that they are equally good at writing stick letters and letters with arcs and loops. It is true that the older the child, the more legible the letters they can write, and that children most often write letters that are found in their names. This article provides a descriptive statistical analysis of letter writing by children aged 3 to 6 who attend kindergartens in the Slovak Republic.
