This presentation aims to describe how the Independent Learning Centre (ILC) and the Library of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) respond to the UNESCO’s vision in Global Citizenship Education (GCE) and the need to empower our students with the mindsets and skills needed to behave as responsible global citizens of the 21st Century via an independent online learning series and co-curricular activities. The Series, which comprises 3 modules on Intercultural Communication, Media & Technology, and Global Labour & Employment respectively, was launched in the fall semester of 2024 across the campus. Each module engages students with interactive exercises, videos, case studies as well as self-reflection questions and advocacy group project suggestions. At the end of each module, we include a relevant glossary and further learning resources for students to further explore the topics. To motivate students to complete the Series before the end of the semester, we offered incentives and invited them to a Dialogue event where they could freely exchange their views on the topics covered in the Series with teachers. Data were collected via students’ reflections after completing the Series. The qualitative analysis of such reflections, in general, showed, heightened global citizenship awareness among students. Connection between the Series content and their own experience, incidents from the local community, and the world trends were noted. Plans of concrete actions to make the world a more equal, peaceful and sustainable place were observed as well. There seems to be more mentions in students’ cognitive and behavioural domains.
