This study focused on the experiences of gender-based violence (GBV) among university students specifically on their emotional responses, coping mechanisms, and academic challenges following incidents of violence. The researcher used the qualitative approach to capture the phenomenon covering gender-based violence cases and experiences. Participants were selected based on cases filed at the Student Discipline Unit of the University. There were seven ( 7 ) participants who agreed to be part of the study. Interviews were conducted using a researcher- made interview questions which provided the necessary data for the research. Findings reveal that GBV were manifested in forms such as inappropriate touching, attempted sexual assault, and physical abuse related to gender preference. These experiences result in profound emotional distress, loss of motivation, and academic decline. Despite these challenges, survivors showed resilience through self-isolation, self-care, seeking trusted support, and re-engagement with academics. Participants diverted their attention to their academic performance to do better in their education and forget the GBV they experienced. With these results, the study emphasizes the immediate need for institutional policies, awareness programs, and inter-agency collaboration to address GBV and support survivors’ recovery and reintegration not only into the academic environment but the society as well. The researcher proposed programs on gender-based violence prevention for the university.
